Notre Dame and Miami spent the 1980s trying to ruin each other’s seasons. Last December, the College Football Playoff committee did its part to make the rivalry personal again.

No. 5 Notre Dame ended Saturday's game again Navy with a 35-13 victory at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA.  However, through the first 28 minutes of the game, it appeared the Irish had been caught looking ahead to their matchup the following week against the Miami Hurricanes.

Notre Dame and Navy have played almost every year for a century. The history is real. So is the question of whether history alone means they should keep doing it forever.
